We are planning another engaging BELL Academy with two experienced Braille teachers and many engaging activities. This year Delaware will have a two-week Academy and we know everyone will have FUN and have many enjoyable Braille learning opportunities. Our facility this year is more spacious and has hosted many activities for blind and visually impaired children in the past. We know the children will love it!

Lunch:
This is a residential camp. All meals for the duration of the program will be provided.

Transportation:
Parents are responsible for transportation, but we will work with parents to ensure students can make it to the program. Contact one of the coordinators for assistance.

Additional Information:
This is a week long over night program. Students will arrive on Sunday and leave on Friday. We will provide all meals.

Students will need to arrive at 4:00 pm on Sunday. We ask that parents arrive at noon on Friday for our closing ceremony.

Twin-sized bed sheets, with a blanket and a pillow

Clothes for each day

Additional Information:
This is a residential program for students ages 11-18. Participants will be housed in the dorms at Oregon State University. The curriculum is designed to foster greater independence through Braille, technology, daily living skills, and travel. Participants in this BELL X Academy will be responsible for: planning and preparing their own meals (including shopping within a budget), scheduling transportation and other logistics involved in planning a field trip, exploring accessible technology, and working together as a team on special projects.

South Carolina BELL Academy FAQs

Registration Fees:

Registration is $50 per participant which covers materials and activities for both weeks. Sibling discounts may be available. Please contact Jennifer Bazer for details. Also, the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina wants all children to participate in the NFB BELL Academy, regardless of ability to pay. If the registration fee will create a financial hardship, please contact Jennifer Bazer to discuss other options.


Lunch:
Lunch and snacks will be provided to all participants; however, participants are welcome to bring lunch and snacks if they prefer specific items. Please let us know if there any dietary restrictions.

Transportation:
Transportation is not provided to participants; however, please contact Jennifer Bazer if you have specific questions regarding transportation.

Additional Information:
The NFB of SC hopes that all children will be able to participate in the Bell program and looks forward to getting to know your children, learning, having fun and forging friendships. A final ceremony will be held August 3 and welcomes all friends and family of Bell participants to attend.

Registration for the Memphis Bell Academy is $250.00 and a $50.00 deposit is required upon completion of the application. For families experiencing financial hardship which would prevent your child from attending the Bell Academy, a scholarship can be requested to cover part or all of the registration fee. Please contact the Bell Academy Coordinator to request an application.

Lunch: All meals will be provided to all registered attendees.
Transportation: Requests for transportation will be handled on a case by case basis.
Additional Information:
The Memphis Bell Academy is a 2-week residential program for children between the ages of 4-16 who are blind or low vision. It will be held on the campus of the University of Memphis. During the two weeks participants will increase their braille literacy, develop nonvisual skills, cane travel, assistive technology, adaptive sports, and increase their overall independence. Participants can also attend as day students only, however the transportation to and from would be the responsibility of the family. All participants must be fully toilet trained.

During the week participants will increase their braille literacy, develop nonvisual skills, cane travel, assistive technology, adaptive sports, and increase their overall independence. Participants can also attend as day students only, however the transportation to and from would be the responsibility of the family. All participants must be fully toilet trained.

Washington BELL Academy FAQs

Lunch:
Students will make their own lunch daily provided by the program. For field trip days, please send $5 with your student for lunch. If your student has food allergies, please send sack lunch daily and inform us of allergies.

Transportation:
families must transport students to and from the program daily. Transportation will be provided to and from field trips.

Additional Information:
Program will take place at the Washington state School for the Blind. This is a day program only for ages 6-12. No housing provided.
Students will take part in a variety of fun trips and educational activities designed to immerse them in Braille literacy, cane skills, adaptive sports, and teach them valuable blindness skills.
