Logistics Assistant


The custodial/logistics team in the Operations department of the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute provides staff, members, and guests with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and visit. Members of the custodial/logistics team maintain a pleasant environment and ensure the smooth running of multiple events that take place in our building.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Vacuum, shampoo, mop, sweep, and spot clean floors and furniture
  • Clean and dust windows, pictures, walls, fixtures, doors, etc.
  • Maintain cleanliness of common areas such as lobbies, hallways, conference rooms, etc.
  • Clean, maintain, and supply restrooms and lunchroom
  • Gather and empty trash
  • Support the execution of NFB events (e.g., serving and preparing food, assisting guests as needed)
  • Set up, arrange, and remove tables, chairs, stage, and screens to prepare facility for events such as banquets and meetings
  • Additional responsibilities may include moving furniture, laundering linens and rags, cleaning bedrooms, etc.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; use as directed
  • Safely operate fleet vehicles, including fifteen-passenger vans, to transport staff and/or members to airports, the train station, and off-site events as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Must be able to follow directions and perform work duties with limited supervision
  • Good interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Must be capable of lifting/ moving furniture, trash cans/ bags and other items (in excess of thirty pounds)
  • Active, valid driver’s license is mandatory
  • Must be able to assist with food preparation and service
  • Must be reliable and able to work flexible days and hours
  • Should be comfortable using commercial machinery including but not limited to vacuum cleaners, carpet machines, floor buffers extractors, laundry machines, etc.
